On Becoming a Glass Cup Girl

Last fall, I took my favorite glass cup and straw to my desk in the office. I’ve been making more of an effort to decorate my corporate corner and make it feel cozy, homey, and beautiful. I have the space—why not make it pretty? The ribbed glass for my cold brew was part of this effort.

Since bringing it into work, I can’t say that my days have shifted. I’m still working the same job at the same desk. Nothing about the circumstances are different. But I can report a revolutionary shift in my internal landscape.

So, I’ve decided, I am a glass cup girl.

And by this, I mean—I am the kind of girl who chooses beauty. Who makes the effort to elevate any space, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. Who fights for the daily delights, opting for a styled cup because it makes me joyful vs. throwing out yet another styrofoam vessel.

I believe any space can be beautiful. Even if it’s only in how I feel inside.

In the past I thought this might have been a little frivolous. To think about, and also to write about. Publicly! But taking a step back and zooming out a little bit, it’s just a glass cup—and I am worthy of a glass cup, darnit! Self-worth starts in the little things.

We are always one decision away from beauty. Inspiration. Delight. Telling ourselves we are worth these things because God not only gave them to us, but created us from them.

Taking a different way home.
Window shopping.
Going on that walk instead of sitting still.
Smothering my toast in jam and butter.
Wearing those heels I always want to wear deep down.
Picking up the pen instead of scrolling.
Adding an extra spice to the recipe and seeing what happens.
Making a fun playlist instead of settling for noise that adds stress.
Sitting in the sun instead of another episode.
Reading a book instead of doomscrolling.
Grabbing a glass cup instead of a plastic one.

It’s available, and it’s only a decision away. Always. Here’s to being glass cup girls in a paper world and knowing in the quiet of our spirit that we are worth it.

Always looking for delight—

— I got my first sliiight sunburn of the season this weekend (happy spring!), and now it’s turned bronze. This my much-needed reminder to order my spring/summer Tinted Moisturizer in a shade darker than my norm. If you’re in the market, this one has great coverage, color, and goes on like a breeze. Plus, no hormone-disrupting ingredients. 🙂

— How are we halfway through March?! I’m currently revisiting my March intentions and going to make the most of the final push of Q1. More reflections coming soon!

— More thoughts on learning to love yourself—

— If you’ve had a bad day (or a string of hard days), this is for you.
