The thing about bad days is that I have them, and they suck, and they can leave me with a headache and the desperate desire to cry or scream (or both), but as I keep breathing and blinking, before I know it, they’re over.
There are many breeds of these notoriously unwanted days.
The kinds that leave me feeling annoyed for no particular reason, an undercurrent of irritation and frustration riding shotgun as I go about my business.
The ones that stem from core-achingly upsetting circumstances, meetings, conversations, news, I-didn’t-ask-for-this-isms, etc.
And then there are the ones that leave me standing in front of the fridge, zoning out while spoon-feeding myself raw cookie dough as if this is perfectly civilized behavior.
But, as I keep breathing and blinking, before I know it, I’m taking off my makeup and wiping away all the grime and grub from the day with it, slipping into cozy pajamas and summer-salting into a delicious sandwich of blankets, sheets, and pillows.
And the beauty here—the divine mystery and opportunity—is that somehow tomorrow arrives all shiny and brand new, an unwrapped gift waiting for me to open it.
I’ll wake up and wash my face and drink fresh coffee and put on a fabulous outfit—perhaps with an ascot?!—and the worries of yesterday will melt away as I delight in the goodness—the art, the moments of divinity—in this blank canvas of a day.
Thank God His mercies are new every morning, and that in His great grace and abundance, any waking moment is available for me to say, “Nope, not today, we’re turning this ship around,” and start anew.
Bad days happen—they come and they go—but the fresh starts, new opportunities, and possibilities always prevail. Because God is in the business of miracles, and miracles often find us in the mundane, outnumbering and surpassing the hard, heavy, drab days.
Love always wins. Beauty always wins. Miracles always win. And by golly, with God’s strength, I am going to win, too.
A Poem Elaborating on This Idea

— I drive by the airport every morning on my way to work. This visual of planes taking off and new journeys beginning fills me with hope. Today, I am on my way! More on that here.
— Field notes on persisting through hard days—
— I’ve found my evening routine really helps me set up for better fresh starts in the morning. This includes: dry brushing + a warm shower, stretching before settling in for the night, wearing pajamas I love, taking off my makeup with this balm, putting my phone away 30-60 minutes before I sleep, reading for even 5-10 minutes before bed (this is what I’m currently reading—so good), and doing a 10 minute tidy in the kitchen.
— I’ve got an opening for another creative coaching session. If you are curious about writing, content creation, building a business, book a time to chat and I will answer any questions you have about working together! I’d love to help you make your dreams a reality. xo
