MY PROMISE TO THE PAGE
I don’t know much right now,
But I know that I must write through it.
I must keep putting pen to paper,
Taking one step
after another,
Processing
Reflecting
Healing
Using words
to make sense
of all the change,
Heartbreak,
Pain and sorrow.
Even if it doesn’t make sense
on this side of Heaven,
The searching for words
is healing in itself,
The light shining in each syllable
Between each line,
Every labor of love
on the page
For the Lord,
for the light.
_______
HOLY DEMANDS
Isn’t it funny
How one moment is grey,
Pale,
Empty.
And as time ticks on
Even a single second later,
The sun tears through the veil,
Demanding to meet you
On a fine October afternoon.
_______
ALASKA
I’ve heard there’s a place
Where the sun never sets,
Its presence there when you rise
And there when you say goodbye to the day.
I’m sure it gets old in July
But on the front end of November
There’s nowhere else
My heart wants to be
My body dreaming
Of standing in Alaska’s light.
