CONSTANT
In big ways, 
I feel like my little heart
has already processed the seasons changing
has already came face to face
with the transition 
and heartbreak 
it brings.
And while there were dark hours,
There wasn’t a single second 
the light wasn’t shining,
its consistency
Maybe my favorite thing 
of all.

Most of the best poems  
Are born from the darkest moments
Unbuttoned and raw
Like the most precious moments of healing—
Nothing I contrive or control
Pure magic in the ordinary,
In the tough and in the tricky.
A new beginning,
Even when the sun is setting.

There are moments
That are tempting
To go back to the cold
If only in your mind, 
If only for a moment. 
But you’re in Texas now, dear,
And you’re still
Getting sunburnt
In October.
