ARTIFICIAL LIGHT
Have you ever
Wanted to feel the sun 
so badly
That you settled 
for mediocre illumination,
For a moment of relief 
from the shadows,
Dark and looming, 
From the constant 
you fear won’t ever end?

When really
The truth 
about artificial light
Is that it will never give us 
The Vitamin D we need
Or were born
To receive.

COZY
Do you ever want 
to turn on all the lamps
And keep the blinds closed
To sit in the warm glow, 
The intimacy and serenity
Of the artificial light, 
A reference 
to what once was?
As you miss those days of unabridged sunshine,
May the glow of the lamp
Remind you 
that He shines 
in every season,
No matter 
what the temperature says.

REALITIES
With the first sip of coffee,
Soft hymns play on.
A never ending sea of grey swarms above
Tempting me to worry this morning is ruined
Soaked in fear of the dark,
Paralyzed I may never see the sun.

But as the song plays on,
I ground myself in the reality I cannot yet see—
Much like the sun—
And a fountain of hope 
bubbles up
and satisfies my soul.
I simply cannot wait
For the warm glow 
Heaven brings.
