New Beginnings Are Always Taking Flight

One of my favorite things about working at Solo Stove is the commute.

Yes, it is short, but also, the office is located on DFW Airport property, so I drive past one of the runways each morning on my way in. At any given moment, I can see 7+ planes in the sky or landing right next to me.

I find myself daydreaming as they cross my field of vision: who are these people? Where are they going? Where are they coming from? Is their travel for work or pleasure?

Because on what feels like a boring Tuesday to me, someone else is turning a leaf, starting a new venture, making another memory, hugging a loved one when they land. New beginnings are unfolding right before my eyes.

I need this reminder—this belief—that new life is happening all around and that I don’t have to go far to find it. Even a monotonous commute is fertile ground for the miracles of Heaven to grab my attention. All I have to do is decide to look for them; God’s already ahead of me, already preparing the miracle. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all my days.” Psalm 23:6.

My drive puts countless aircrafts in my path everyday, and every so often God grabs my attention with one of them to say:

New beginnings—new life—can happen at any moment.

There doesn’t need to be some big event or occasion; deciding I want to start something or tend to my soul is occasion enough. I am always welcome to start a new path, choose a new thought, or repaint the walls of my mind with beauty, goodness, peace, or hope. This moment is as good as any to try again, start anew, choose the path I really want to be on. It’s a new day, and the possibilities are endless.

So start the business.
Publish the blog.
Try the workout.
Go on the date.
Show up to the event.
Post the video.

New life is unfolding around us at every turn. May we never lose sight of it in our daily work.  Because when it feels least expected—especially when it feels least expected—the Holy Spirit is working all things together for our good. Trusting that’s true is the wind beneath my wings, and the wings of each plane continue to fan the flames of my belief.

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” —God, to us, in Isaiah 43:19
