I’m Done Talking About This

On Faith, Soul

After church a few Sundays ago, I stood in the back of the sanctuary with my friend Christy. We caught up on our latest life updates—the status of my job (tariffs have hit the company hard) and her upcoming move to be closer to grandkids (selling a house in this market is hard, too). We marveled at the sheer unknown of trying to plan or figure out next steps in the year of our Lord, 2025.

At this point in the conversation, our pastor, Travis, walked by, and it sparked Christy’s memory. There was something Travis’s grandmother used to say in these kinds of uncertain situations.

And you should know, dear reader—Travis’s grandma wasn’t just any grandma. She lived to be 101 and was the beloved Gigi of our church family, greeting every person who walked through the doors with a smile as bright as the sun. She had—and still has—such a strong testimony of sharing Jesus with others. She recently passed away, and our church family has missed her so.

With bright, lively eyes, Christy recalled, “I once heard Gigi respond with such wisdom in unknown times like these. When someone would bring up their situation and start barrelling down a rabbit trail of worry, Gigi would stop and say:

I’m done talking about this. God has a plan.”

Plain and simple. Period.

Now, you guys know I’m a big advocate of processing emotions vs. shoving them down. The latter almost never results in a healthy outcome. But I think Gigi had some real, healthy insight here—there are times when we truly do just need to stop talking about XYZ.

Stop fretting about what might happen.

Stop worrying about where we’d like to go or not go.

Stop spinning up a comfortable, predictable plan in the face of discomfort.

There are times when we simply need to stop. Breathe. Rest in the relief, release, and respite of the Father and trust that He does, indeed, have a plan and that it’s going to be good. That good will come out of whatever situation we find ourselves in, even if it doesn’t look good right now. That He cares about us more than He cares about the lilies in the field or the sparrows in the sky—which He cares about deeply, too.

He loves us. And He has a plan. And we don’t have to figure it all out right now to trust Him. In fact, I’d offer that not knowing what’s coming next is the greatest place we can learn to trust Him deeper.
So maybe these crossroads of uncertainty are the best opportunities to open our hands in surrender and take after Gigi, trusting that we don’t need to talk about this anymore. God has a plan. And knowing Him, it’s going to be good.
