One morning in the thick of a very low thyroid storm (read: extreme fatigue, sluggishness, depression, digestion issues, etc.), I wrote out this list of beliefs. I needed to sort through the mess of frustration I was feeling and get to the bottom line of what I believe about God, myself, and life. This exercise not only changed my morning but many mornings since as I’ve revisited this list again and again. I pray you find a few “I believe” statements you resonate with and can hold onto when you need a regrounding, recentering moment.
__
I believe my thyroid medicine will make a difference in not just my labs, but also how I feel and how my days go.
I believe that the medicine will really make an impact.
I believe that I have a purpose at work.
I believe that my presence matters. That my thoughts and voice matter, too.
I believe that how I carry myself matters. That the love, grace, kindness, peace, encouragement, vision, compassion, and self-control within me is Heaven-sent and can move mountains and shine a light in the darkness.
I believe the light of Heaven shines from within me.
I believe Jesus has handwritten all my days and knows exactly how I’ll feel on each one of them.
I believe that Jesus loves and cheers on my creativity, that He gave it to me and serves a reflection of His masterful creation and creativity.
I believe this day I’m about to live was written in God’s perfect penmanship long before the Earth was formed or I existed yet.
I believe my passion, ideas, and gifts matter and can make a difference.
I believe I am blessed beyond measure.
I believe God will take care of me today, as He’s taken care of me every single day before this.
I believe it is literally impossible for God to let me down or fail me.
I believe I am called to my specific life, created on purpose for the people I’m with and the challenges + opportunities ahead of me.
I believe I was made for such a time as this.
I believe that how I treat my body and mind matters. That what I eat and how I think really make a difference in both my physical and spiritual health.
I believe that I am loved and cared for by the hands of the Creator of the universe.
I believe all of this is true, and that God is for me. That God just wants my heart as I journey through this day.
I believe that writing these words down matters. That by writing and believing them, I am starting my day on a positive note. A note that will only strengthen and fuel positive thoughts, a strong foundation in my mind.
I believe God is good and loves me immensely, and I believe that is the most important belief of all.
God, thank you for the opportunity to take my headspace and mold it into something beautiful. Thank you for a mind with neuroplasticity and the fact it can change and get better at every turn. Thank you that you have given us both science and scripture to prove the power of our minds and the way you intended for us to care for them so specifically, intentionally, and consistently. Your design is really beautiful, and I am grateful.
