One Year In: A Q&A with My Husband About Marriage

In just a couple days, Mitch and I will celebrate our first anniversary.

This past year has zipped by, but as always with time, there have been pockets that felt like they would never end. I’ve learned so much about marriage, about being a wife, and about Mitch this past year, but I thought the best way to put it into words would be a little Q&A with Mitch himself. 🙂

It’s been a long-standing dream of mind to bring Mitch blog, and this seemed like the prime opportunity. I put these reflection questions together, and we both answered without seeing the other’s responses. It’s sweet to see how similar some of our answers were… great minds!

Year one of marriage was a sweet, growing, eye-opening, laughter-filled adventure. I’m more in love with him today than I was a year ago, and I know that love will only continue to grow over time.

Here’s to love, to marriage, and to many, many more trips around the sun together! xo

Describe your spouse in 3 words.

MM: Dreamy, creative, encouraging

ARM: Witty, loyal, strong

Describe your marriage in 3 words.

MM: Fun, tested, adventure

ARM: Safe, growing, laughter

What has surprised you about marriage?

MM: It’s been eye-opening to see how much we rely on each other. We’ve certainly faced our share of trials, even going back to our engagement period, but we’ve weathered the storm together and constantly been each other’s encouragement to seek comfort in the Lord’s mercy and the love of our marriage.

ARM: I have been surprised by the sheer amount of practicality that marriage is… before you get married, you (at least I) imagined it being so romantic and dreamy most of the time. While Mitch is my dream guy every day of the year, it is a lot of logistics, scheduling, and driving around together. Which, with my best friend, is pretty fun.

What has surprised you about your spouse?

MM: Her bedtime zoomies strike out of nowhere, oftentimes resulting in song and dance.

ARM: I’m always surprised how productive he is first thing on Saturday mornings. I’ll sip my coffee for an hour and journal for twice that time, and Mitch has already done laundry, fixed three problems, and delivered world peace.

Currently, what’s one of your favorite things about Mr./Mrs. Mason?

MM: She is always excited to share what she’s working on to create her dream business!

ARM: He is so diligent and dedicated in figuring out all the details of our new house (!!) as we get ready to move in. I am so grateful for his attention to detail and thoughtfulness.

Best thing about marriage?

MM: Having a life long best friend who is just kind-of stuck with you. It’s fun to look up over coffee or late and night and you’re just both there together.

ARM: Getting to do everything with my best friend. It’s just fun to realize we get to do and experience almost everything side by side.

What are you looking forward to in your relationship together?

MM: More twilight golf dates!

ARM: Making more travel memories together.

What’s one thing you want Mr./Mrs. Mason to know?

MM: You are endlessly loved and cherished. There isn’t a single day that goes by that I’m not so thankful for you, your love, and the joy you bring me.

ARM: You are my dream guy forever and always. Your faithful love and care for me doesn’t go unnoticed—you are the best of the best in every regard. It is an honor to be your wife. Happy anniversary, love!
