Growing up, I have many fond memories standing at my mom’s vanity experimenting with her makeup, seriously discussing the ins and outs of her latest products. It was a place of connection, creativity, and serious girlhood fun. So it makes sense I love seeing what go-tos are in my friends’ makeup bags now.
As you read this post, pretend we’re in my bathroom looking through the contents of my bag together, pulling each item out for quick highlights of why I have it, what I use it for, and why I recommend it. I seriously wish we could do this side by side! So this is my attempt at assessing the goods together.
If you looked in my makeup bag as of June 2025, this is exactly what you’d find—no filtering or curating here. Let’s dive in!
- First of all, the makeup bag itself deserves a moment. I got this Leatherology pouch for Christmas a couple years ago and have loved it every day since (such a great gift idea!). It fits my daily essentials—and more—but still fits in my purses, totes, and travel bags. I couldn’t ask for much more than that, in my opinion.
- Crunchi SPF Tinted Moisturizer — I honestly stopped using full-coverage foundation about six months ago. Who’s got time for that? (JK, I do, when there’s an event or occasion). This tinted moisturizer gives just the right amount of coverage + color, it’s light, it blends in seamlessly, and it doesn’t have any toxins or hormone disruptors in it. WIN! I apply with my fingers and gently rub it in.
- Crunchi Concealer — Same deal here, this is really light and blends in perfectly. I rub it in with my fingers under my eyes. And again, totally clean ingredients that perform.
- Crunchi Liquid Blush — You may be noticing a trend… not everything in my bag is Crunchi, ha. This blush gives the perfect pop of color and blends well. It’s the first liquid blush I’ve ever used, and I feel like I get way more color and control with it. I apply two dots on the top of each cheek bone] and rub it in with my fingers. Also 100% clean.
- Crunchi Bronzer — I’ve been using this one for almost a year. Pro-tip: It goes on strong, so start small and build up if you want more color. I got it because I love the ingredients—and what’s not in the ingredient list. I use the big, fluffy brush I’ve had forever to contour on my cheeks, forehead, and jawline.
- Crunchi Highlighter — This is what makes the whole look, if I do say so myself. I apply with an angled brush under my eyes, on my cheek bones, and down my nose. It’s a little sparkle, sparkle without being overkill for work and day-to-day life.
- Elf Eyebrow Pencil — Gotta have at least one drugstore product in here, ha! I have a hard time justifying paying a lot for a clean eyebrow pencil when it covers so little of my skin and I can get this for $5 from Target or Amazon. I love the spoolie on the other end—essential.
- Ilia Mascara — This is the stuff! Hands down the best clean mascara I’ve ever tried—and I’ve been around the block with different brands. None compare to this.
- Primally Pure Cocoa Lip Balm — This is easily my favorite part of each morning and evening skincare routine. It feels so luxurious!! A simple, clean, and fairly inexpensive (considering the price of their other products) lip balm that seriously moisturizes and soothes my lips every dang time.
- Travel Risewell Toothpaste — You never know when you could need it! And for travel purposes, the mesh pocket is the perfect place to store it.
- I always keep a small Scunci clip in the pocket — I literally use these every day and sleep in them to keep the volume in the front of my hair alive overnight.
- Aaaand a larger claw clip for all my hair. Fun fact: I got each of my bridesmaids a pack of these in their “bridesmaids proposal”. I still use the small size here every day—the best size for all my hair and still look sleek.
- Hair ties — There’s always at least one hair tie, one scrunchy, and one clear elastic tie in the zipper pouch. This helps when packing for a trip—I don’t have to think about these things. I just know I’m covered.
- Hair Pick — I keep this in there for when I need to freshen up my hair. Again, also extremely handy when traveling (post-flight airport touch up, anyone?!).
